Coordinating Minister Airlangga Calls OECD Supporting Increased Investment Climate In Indonesia

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) supports an increase in the investment climate in Indonesia.

Airlangga, who is also the Chief Executive of the OECD National Team, said that in the process of accessing Indonesia to become a permanent member, OECD will seek to develop regulations so that it can create a comfortable climate to invest in Indonesia.

"OECD will conduct a survey of the Indonesian economy. This is one of the supports for OECD on how to increase the investment climate and how Indonesia is equivalent to the OECD country in developing regulations, so that investors are comfortable to invest in Indonesia," Airlangga said in a press statement via a YouTube account broadcast. This was conveyed by Airlangga after accompanying President Joko Widodo to meet with the Secretary General of OECD Mathias Cormann at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Secretary General Cormann also discussed OECD support to help the semiconductor ecosystem in Indonesia.

For information, the development of a semiconductor industrial ecosystem is the government's projection to create a new generation of economic machines towards Indonesia Gold 2045.

This semiconductor ecosystem will increase productivity and competitiveness in various manufacturing sectors that require semiconductors, including electronics such as automotive devices (covering electric vehicles), industry, households, communication, transportation, and medical equipment.

In addition, OECD will also study the economic digital roadmap run by ASEAN countries.

"They will also learn how ASEAN runs its digital roadmap economy framework agreement, which is also a learning process at OECD," said Airlangga.

At the meeting, President Joko Widodo stated Indonesia's commitment to become a full member of the OECD in three years.

In the process of accessing Indonesia to become a permanent member of OECD, the OECD National Team will make a memorandum in the next 250 days covering 26 sectors, ranging from finance, economy, anti-corruption, healthy competition, consumer policy, digital economy, to technology policy.

Indonesia has been on the OECD access list and since 2007 Indonesia has also become an OECD partner with Brazil, India, China, and South Africa.
