DENPASAR - Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) was a speaker at the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Bali, Wednesday, May 22.

It is known that AHY was a speaker at the international activity together with the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian.

In his remarks, AHY said, there will be 10 billion people worldwide by 2050 who are threatened with the country and water crisis.

He said that currently the issue of water and land is the most urgent to be discussed globally.

"It is estimated that clean water reserves will fall 40 percent by 2030 and the world will need more than 60 percent of food reserves today. Without land and water there is no agriculture and food," said AHY.

In fact, water and land are the most urgent needs for humans.

Thus, if the issue of water and land is not resolved immediately, it can cause a disaster.

"This fact can be our reason to unite and collaborate in taking action solutions," he said.

Based on the 10th WWF theme, namely Water for Shared Prosperity or water for mutual welfare, AHY said this includes three principles.

First, water management that is welfare-oriented and has a broad meaning, not only material matters but also includes conditions of success and happiness.

"In the last 10 years, Indonesia has built infrastructure such as 42 dams to increase water reserves," he said.

In second principle, water management must be fair because currently some areas have sufficient water reserves, but some other areas still face water shortages.

The third principle is the issue of sustainability. AHY advised that water must be maintained so that it can be passed on to future generations.

"To implement these three principles, the central government must form an institution that has the authority and can integrate all policies to create a water management strategy," he added.
