JAKARTA - Indonesia is included in the Organization's access list for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as a country that is in the process of becoming a permanent member.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto explained, acceleration is a country that is in the process of becoming a member.

"Indonesia since 2007 has become an OECD partner with Brazil, India, China, and South Africa," Airlangga Hartarto said, quoting Antara.

He said Indonesia's request to become a permanent member state of OECD had been received through the Ministerial Council Meeting in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of The OECD Southeast Asia Regional Program (SEARP) which was held in Paris two weeks ago.

In the SEARP agenda led by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida as the holder of the OECD chairman, Airlangga reported to the President that an application for accession of Indonesia and Argentina had been received by OECD

Airlangga said, the provisions for the duration of Indonesia's accession to become a permanent member of OECD are relatively faster than Argentina.

"Argentina until yesterday's meeting processed for 5 years. Meanwhile, Indonesia, starting from the letter sent by OECD, processed for 7 months," he said.

"Now countries with the same status as Indonesia are Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, and Romania. The list of countries processes an average of more than 2 years, even Brazil has been close to 5 years," Airlangga added.

"Indonesia has just entered the registration," he said.

To complete the 7-month target of the accession period, said Airlangga, Indonesia will learn from Chile's practice as a country with the fastest achievement of accession completion for 3 years.

"The practices carried out by several countries that have become members of the accession take 6 years, Colombia 7 years, Chile 3 years. So we have to learn from Chile how they can become members in a faster time," he said.

After the acceleration, Indonesia will create a memorandum that covers 26 sectors in the OECD steering commitment, ranging from finance, economy, anti-corruption, healthy competition, consumer policy, digital economy, to polycy technology.

"Our Presidential directive will form a Project Management Office under the office of the Coordinating Ministry, where it will cover the entire ministry and that is to oversee the transformation process towards a state that is part of the OECD," he said.

As a follow-up to the agenda, the Secretary-General of OECD Mathias Cormann has been scheduled to meet President Jokowi in Indonesia between 28-29 May 2024.
