JAKARTA - The Indonesian economy must grow to more than 6-8 percent in the next three years to become a developed country in 2045.

This was revealed by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto after giving a press statement at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday, May 16.

Airlangga's statement was in response to the elected president Prabowo Subianto who expressed his confidence that Indonesia's economic growth could reach 8 percent in the next two to three years under his government.

"In the next two or three years, indeed in our RPJMN, if we want to become a developed country in 2045, we must grow above 6-7-8 percent," said Airlangga quoting Antara.

According to Airlangga, the world economic situation in two to three years will change, as will the current geopolitical conditions.

Airlangga assessed that if geopolitical conditions were safe, Indonesia could take advantage of the fiscal pads that had been carried out so far for subsidies and other social assistance.

"No one knows about the war," said Airlangga when asked about the current war situation between countries.

He added that the digital sector and semi-conductor are projected to support the economic growth of a country that can soar.

Meanwhile, for Indonesia, "critical minerals" are the key to increasing the mix of renewable energy into a sector that continues to be encouraged to boost economic growth.

The Minister of Defense who is also the President-Elect of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto is optimistic that the Indonesian economy will be able to achieve growth of up to 8 percent in the next two to three years.

This was revealed by Prabowo while attending the Qatar Economic Forum 2024 in Doha, Wednesday (15/5). On that occasion, Prabowo was asked about the projection of Indonesia's economic growth which could be achieved in his five years of leadership later.

"I am very sure, I have spoken with experts and studied the figures. I am sure we can easily reach 8 percent. I am determined to exceed it," said Prabowo, who on that occasion was accompanied by the elected vice president Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"Yes, maybe (the hope) can be (realized) in the next two three years," he said.
