JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) through its subsidiary, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI) won three CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and GDP (Resilient Village Development) Awards 2024 from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Kemendes PDTT).
SBI Tuban Factory won two awards, including the Gold category for the Village Without Disadvantages program through social innovation in community involvement in melon cultivation, as well as the Silver category for the Village Care for the Environment program through waste bank activities. Meanwhile, SBI Cilacap Factory won the Gold category award for the BaruWANI RANAJAYA program: Bala Runtah Watu Geni Ranajaya which is a community empowerment-based waste processing activity with circular economic principles.
The Gold Award for SBI Tuban Factory was handed over directly by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma'ruf Amin and received by the President Director of SBI, Lilik Unggul Raharjo. Meanwhile, the other two awards were handed over by the Minister of PDTT Village, Abdul Halim Iskandar at The Westin Jakarta, on Tuesday 7 May.
President Director of SBI, Lilik Unggul Raharjo said that sustainability is about how the Company as part of the environment and society, ensures its existence brings positive benefits to society, maintains the environment, and ensures economic growth.
"In synergy with SIG, our sustainability strategy becomes a reference in running business and operations, prioritizing good governance (GCG), sustainable resource management, environmentally friendly initiatives, as well as empowerment of human resources and communities as reflected, among others in CSR programs and community development at the village level. Especially in programs in Tuban and Cilacap, SBI collaborates with BUMDes, so that collaboration occurs that supports the implementation and optimization of the benefits of these programs for the environment and society," said Lilik Unggul Raharjo., Vita Mahreyni said, CSR and PDB Awards 2024 are clear evidence of GIS's contribution in supporting the government's efforts to accelerate village development in Indonesia. This award is also a motivation for SIG to continue to create social innovation in order to encourage the realization of village progress by forming a empowered and independent society, as well as supporting environmental sustainability, based on the ESG framework (Environmental, Social, Governance).
"Accelerating village development requires collaborative efforts from various parties, including business actors. As a state-owned company, SIG is ready to collaborate and synergize with the government and other parties to jointly build and advance villages in Indonesia. Because actually the progress of a nation starts from the village," said Vita Mahreyni.
Aquaculture melon is a social innovation of the Tuban Factory SBI carried out by the fostered farmer group, Mliwang Metu Banyune, on land owned by SBI and a local village covering an area of 7,000 m2 in Mliwang Village, Kerek District, Tuban Regency, East Java. This program started in early August 2023 with the planting of 3,500 melon seeds using a LAW or bamboo ajir system, where ajir was installed to propagate plants from melon seeds, so that when it produces melons it will hang. That way, the cleanliness is guaranteed because it does not lie on the ground that has the potential to cause fungi.
This melon power supply itself relies on water from artificial lakes as a source of irrigation. With an area of about 46,000 m2 and an average depth of 3 m, the artificial lake managed by the Company and the surrounding community has a capacity of around 138,000 m3 and is usually used for agriculture, fisheries, and road watering. Until now, two harvests have been carried out, namely in November 2023 and March 2024.
At the first harvest in November 2023, the success rate of melon cultivation was at 70 to 75 percent by producing approximately 8,000 melons ready for consumption. The success achieved prompted the Tuban Factory SBI to replicate this program in other villages in the future.
Meanwhile, the Waste Bank program, which has started in 2016, invites people to save on waste with many benefits that can be obtained. Through cooperation with Pegadaian and BPJS, people who save garbage can get gold and pay BPJS contributions, thus providing added value to many parties.
Meanwhile, BARUWANI RANAJAYA is a community-based integrated waste management program (community) to support the Company's initiative to use alternative fuels in cement production, as well as overcome the problems posed by waste. This program that implements circular economic principles is in collaboration with the village government to invite people to sort waste from home and process it into economic-valued goods.
