CoFTRA: Crypto Assets Are One Of The Keys For The Government Of The Republic Of Indonesia To Accelerate Digital Economy Development

JAKARTA - The Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (CoFTRA) said that crypto assets are one of the keys for the government to accelerate the development of the national digital economy.

"The government makes trading crypto assets one of the key strategies to accelerate, create, and encourage efforts to develop Indonesia's digital economy," said Head of the Commodity Futures Development and Development Bureau CoFTRA Tirta Karma Senjaya in Bogor, quoted from Antara, Saturday, May 4.

He said that the development of the digital economy has become important since the disruption of the global economy occurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mobility restrictions implemented during the pandemic encourage people to switch to adopt digital technology in their daily activities.

According to him, there has been a significant increase in the use of digital technology during the pandemic. Now around 66.5 percent of Indonesia's 278.7 million people have used the internet.

"In addition, internet speed in Indonesia is ranked eighth in the Southeast Asia region, with speeds reaching 29.43 Mbps. Therefore, the government is currently active in promoting the development of the digital economy," Tirta said at the INDODAX Goes to Campus Unitary Business and Informatics Institute (IBI).

Quoting data from Google, he said that the value of Indonesia's digital economy is estimated to reach 146 billion US dollars by 2025. This figure is the largest in the Southeast Asia region.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor of IBI Kesatuan Professor Bambang Pamungkas stated that the development of crypto assets and blockchain technology has brought disruption innovations in the digital economy industry.

He also said that blockchain technology and crypto assets have great potential as valuable assets in the future.

"Although there are many positive aspects of blockchain technology and crypto assets, it is still important to maintain vigilance. In investing in this field, a deep understanding and a mature strategy is needed," he said.
