Trenggono Admits He Got A Lot Of Protests About The Measurable Fish Fishing Policy

JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono admitted that he received a lot of protests from the community, especially fishermen for the existence of a measurable fishing rule (PIT).

In fact, Trenggono said, the PIT rules are not merely prohibiting or limiting fishing but rather making fishermen aware that fishing is carried out according to market needs.

"I continue to protest the measurable arrests, I don't like arrests being limited. Actually, it's not limiting, but making sure that all arrests are not taken. However, they are taken based on market needs," Trenggono said on the 2024 Indonesia Aquaculture Business Forum (IABF) agenda at the Raffles Hotel. Jakarta, Monday, April 29.

With this regulation, Trenggono hopes that future fishing can decrease in quantity and be accompanied by improved quality. Not only that, it is also hoped that there will be an increase in the cultivation of the accultural sector in Indonesia.

He added, in the remaining 6 months of his term of office, his party will boost various efforts so that the acultural sector in Indonesia can be higher, even Indonesia can become a global supply chain.

"We cannot do it alone, but work with other countries such as Vietnam. I have gone back and forth to Vietnam, so that we can become a global supply chain," said Trenggono.

For your information, the KKP has issued Circular Letter (SE) Number B.1945/MEN-KP/XI/2023 concerning Policy Relaxation During the Measurable Fish Fishing Implementation Transition (PIT).

The circular stated that the 2024 quota-based PIT will be postponed and will be implemented in 2025. In the regulation, it is written that the provision of fishing quotas, PNBP for the transfer of fishing quotas and PNBP for business licenses issued by the governor, has not been implemented, aka it cannot be implemented.

During the policy relaxation period, the KKP through the circular asked sub-sector fishing businesses and sub-sectors to transport fish with business licenses to submit a change in the format of fishery business license (SIUP) no later than December 31, 2023.
