The Indonesian Government Discusses Steps To Reduce Industrial Carbon Emissions At The Hannover Messe Forum 2024

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) discussed strategic steps to reduce carbon emissions in the industrial sector in the Forging Smart and Sustainable Industry forum which is part of a series at the 2024 Hannover Messe global prestigious exhibition event in Germany.

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said, in the forum, his party continued to encourage linear economic transformation to become a circular economy in the manufacturing sector.

This is important in order to maintain sustainability of resources, regeneration of raw materials and explore economic potential that has not been utilized. One way that is done is to use the remaining consumption of industrial raw materials so as not to damage the environment.

"When other people see residue as a nuisance or challenge, we see it as an opportunity. Therefore, one of our focuses is reducing the gap between the capacity of the recycling industry and recycled plastic waste," said Minister of Industry Agus in his official statement, Thursday, April 25.

Agus assessed that the business forum in the prestigious event which took place from 22-26 April 2024 was the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and the Energy Academy Indonesia (ECADIN) which was attended by various industry stakeholders, the government, academics and the general public.

He said, the industrial sector is one of the big contributors to emissions. Therefore, Indonesia's energy transition policy in reducing emissions in the industrial sector must be implemented by prioritizing energy sources and low-carbon technology.

Meanwhile, CEO & Founder of ECADIN Desti Alkano explained, the mission of collaboration with the Ministry of Industry is to create a greener future by accelerating the energy transition in the country.

Then, his party also encourages sustainable growth through advocacy and connects expertise, knowledge, business activities and funding facilities.

According to him, collaboration between the public and private sectors is very important to encourage the transition to sustainable industrial development. In this case, the government plays a role in creating a conducive policy environment, providing incentives for sustainable investment and facilitating knowledge sharing initiatives and capacity building.

As for the opening of the Indonesian Pavilion at Hannover Messe 2024, Germany, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed which was witnessed directly by the Minister of Industry.

It is known, the agreement that was made was investment in the waste recycling sector for industrial estates in the Riau Islands which reached more than IDR 5 trillion.

In addition, there was also the signing of a collaboration between Ecodin and TUV Nord, PT Stechoq Robotika with Beckhoff, to develop a learning system and medical grade ventilator, between PT Stechoq Robotika Indonesia and Noyatech for the development of learning products as well as monitoring production and ATMI IGI Center with Solinatra BV.
