RI Commits To Develop Clean Energy At Irena General Session

JAKARYA - Indonesia emphasizes its commitment to developing clean energy to attract investment from a series of meetings at the 14th General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).

Fulfillment of investment needs for the development of clean energy in Indonesia needs to be improved in line with the acceleration of the energy transition to zero emissions by 2060 or earlier.

"We convey our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, to encourage the maturity of renewable energy, to increase energy efficiency, so this provides a good picture that Indonesia is a country worthy of investment," said Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 17.

Dadan said, since Tuesday 16 April or the pre-Sidang period of the Irena General Assembly, he has met with many leaders of the world energy sector such as leaders from Topsoe, a global Danish company engaged in chemical processing, hydro processing, and emission management.

Then also held a meeting with Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi who was engaged in renewable and based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Masdar previously collaborated with BUMN Indonesia in the Cirata Floating PLTS project and also invested in PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE).

Mereka (Masdar) sekarang kan sudah bekerja sama dengan Pertamina Geothermal. Sudah beli sahamnya. Jadi mulai memikir bagaimana mengembangkan panas bumi Indonesia dan juga di tempat yang lain. Secara bisnis memperbesar portfolio yang PGE untuk melihat Afrika. Tadi Masdar-nya bicara juga ke Turki atau ke Filipina. Saya kira bagus memanfaat memanfaatkan hal tersebut, ujar dia.

In the late March 2024 edition of Irena's report, Indonesia leads to additional capacity for geothermal energy with an accumulation of 58 MW in the total addition of global renewable energy capacity.

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also met with the International Energy Agency (IEA) to discuss the development of policies and the direction of world energy development.

The 14th General Assembly of Irena will carry the theme according to the results of the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai, UAE, November 2023, namely Cop28 Results: Infrastructure, Policy, and Ability to Increase Renewable Energy Threefold and Accelerate Energy Transition.

In that theme, Irena wants the global to triple the new renewable energy capacity to at least 11 terawatts (TW) by 2030. Referring to the Outlook Energy Transition document from Irena, the target is to maintain the scenario of increasing the average earth temperature by no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The trial will begin with a high-level statement from the President of the General Assembly, namely the Minister of Infrastructure of Rwanda Jimmy Gasore, the UAE State Host and the Director General Director General of Irena Francesco La Camera.

After delivering a high-level statement, the hearing was suggested by a discussion of a high-level panel, with speakers among others, Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, where Azerbaijan will host the Climate Conference Conference of the Parties (COP) 29 in 2024.

Then other panelists, including UAE Deputy Minister of Energy & Oil Sharif Al Olama, European Union Energy Commissioner Kadri Badminton, African Union Infrastructure and Energy Commissioner Amani Abou-Zeid, and industry players as well as business leaders such as Acciona CEO, Jose Manuel Entrecanales, Masdar CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al ramhi and others.
