Rupiah Was Rp. 16,200 per US Dollar, BI Boss Prepares a Series of Intervention Steps

JAKARTA - Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo has opened his voice regarding the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the United States (US) dollar which fell to IDR 16,214 per US dollar after the 2024 Eid holiday on Tuesday, April 16 2024.

Perry said he would maintain the stability of the Rupiah and would monitor its future developments. And we will prepare a series of intervention steps such as the spot market (cash) or purchases in cash or non-delivery forward (NFD).

"We will ensure that the exchange rate is maintained, we will intervene both through spot and non-delivery forward (NFD)," he told reporters after attending a meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 16.

He said he would coordinate with the government on monetary and fiscal matters. "We ensure that we are in the market to carry out stabilization steps," he explained.

Furthermore, Perry said that there would also be President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to maintain the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar.

"There will be [directions] later," he concluded.

For information, citing Bloomberg data at 12.39 WIB, the rupiah weakened 307.00 points or 1.94 percent to the level of IDR 16,155 per US dollar. The lowest position today was IDR 16,214 per US dollar.
