JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ensured that the government would pay off debts related to the cost of distributing subsidized fertilizers which reached Rp10.48 trillion.

According to Jokowi, the lack of payment complained by PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) was because the government was still waiting for the results of the audit by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) on the bills that had to be paid by the government.

"If the audit has been audited, (the process) is complete, it will definitely be paid," Jokowi said quoting Antara.

The Head of State explained that the audit mechanism must be carried out before the government pays bills.

"You have to understand that mechanism. You don't immediately collect, pay, collect, pay. Billing must be okay first, then (the audit) is finished, then paid," said President Jokowi.

Previously, the President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia Rahmad Pribadi revealed that the government's lack of payment or debt for subsidized fertilizer payments was a total of IDR 10.48 trillion during the 2020-2023 period.

Rahmad also admitted that the lack of pay was due to the audit process that was still being carried out by the BPK.
