JAKARTA - The quarantine of animals, fish and plants in South Kalimantan (South Kalimantan quarantine) certifies 60 live arowana fish consisting of the Banjar red and super red types with a total value of Rp95.2 million to be exported to Japan.

"Quarantine officers carried out a series of examination actions including complete documents, conformity in the type and number of commodities, as well as clinical physical examination," said South Kalimantan Quarantine Head Sudirman as quoted by Antara in Banjarmasin, Sunday.

He explained that the fish sent must be ensured to be in normal condition, not weak, and there are no abnormalities or bleeding in his body.

Quarantine is tasked with ensuring that commodities are in good health and safely packaged, so they can be well received in the destination country.

Sudirman said that the arowana is an export commodity for ornamental fish which will later be developed again in Japan.

The conditions that must be met are for export purposes, the size of arowana fish must be above 10 centimeters.

Exporters of live fish commodities must also have obtained a CKIB (Good Fish Quarantine Way) certificate according to the requirements of the destination country.

Sudirman revealed that arowana fish has an attraction that lies in the color and pattern in its body so that it becomes a potential commodity for export.

This color and pattern character will appear especially at the productive age of fish, starting from three years and over.

Regarding prices, this ornamental fish is among the most expensive in the world, depending on its pattern and size.
