BI Ready To Move To IKN On August 17, 2024, This Is The Fate Of The Office In Jakarta

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) revealed that based on Law (UU) Number 23 of 1999 concerning BI, it stated that the position of the central bank is located in the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia. Therefore, Bank Indonesia will move to a new office in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) on August 17, 2024.

Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo said that he and his staff were ready to have an office at IKN and would start moving to the new capital city of Indonesia on August 17, 2024.

"God willing, on August 17, we are with the government headquartered in IKN," Perry said after a press conference at the board of governors' meeting at the BI Headquarters, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

Perry emphasized that although the head office will be in IKN, most activities will still be in Jakarta, due to business activities such as monetary transactions, foreign exchange reserves, and other financial sector activities in Jakarta.

"BI has branches throughout Indonesia, of course Jakarta will still be the center of activity because most of the payments, monetary, foreign exchange reserves, and the financial sector are in Jakarta," he said.

Perry said that policy formulation activities will certainly not be affected when moving to IKN. Because, all operational activities after the Covid-19 period, BI is used to digital and hybrid work patterns.

"BI since COVID is used to digital and its work patterns are already in a hybrid work pattern, like now Mr. Juda even though he is currently in service in Basel, it's still 2 days ago participating in RDG (the governor's board meeting) and it's legal according to the governor's board regulations, so even though his position is there, implementation activities, BI's tasks can be virtual," said Perry.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had laid the first stone or groundbreaking for the BI office construction project at IKN on Thursday, November 2, 2023.

In addition, Jokowi is determined to carry out the independence ceremony on August 17, 20024 in the State Capital (IKN). Where, the IKN Authority has prepared 6,800 invitations for this event.

"We were asked to prepare a ceremony, the committee ceremony was from the Minister of State Secretary, the number of invited 6,800 people," said IKN Authority Head Bambang Susantono at a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Monday, March 18, 2024.
