Batik Air Deactivates Pilots And Pilots Sleeping While Airing From Kendari To Jakarta

Batik Air opened its voice after the case of a co-pilot and pilot who fell asleep for 28 minutes when the plane took off from Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) to Jakarta.

Batik Air affirms the airline's commitment to providing comfort to passengers.

"Batik Air with a strong commitment to the safety and comfort of passengers conveys various steps to develop operational standards and the performance of its pilots," said Corporate Communications Strategic of Batik Air Danang Mandala Prihantoro in a written statement received by VOI, Saturday, March 9.

"Being the leading priority, safety as an irreducible core value shows the company's dedication to always strengthening flight services," he continued.

Danang said that his party had also taken firm steps against pilots and co-pilots. Both have been relieved of their duties in Batik Air since January 25, 2024.

"On January 26, 2024, Batik Air took preventive action by temporarily deactivating (remitting) flight pilots number ID-6723, the Kendari route to Jakarta on duty on January 25, 2024. This decision is a form of the company's seriousness in the importance of safety aspects and in carrying out a thorough investigation," he said.

The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) has released a preliminary report regarding the incident of the pilot and co-pilot of the Airbus A320 Batik Air airline on the Kendari-Jakarta route, where the pilot and co-pilot fell asleep for 28 minutes due to fatigue.

The incident caused the PK-LUV registration plane to leave the flight route and did not respond to the regional control center (ACC).

"No one was injured in this incident and there was no damage on the part of the plane," as stated in the preliminary report of the NTSC quoting Antara.

However, the NTSC still classifies the incident as a serious incident category.
