RI Has A Potential Wind Power Plant Of Up To 2 GW

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed that Indonesia has the potential for jumbo from the Bayu Power Plant (PLTB).

Acting Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Jisman P. Hutajulu said, this potential lies in the northern region of Java Island.

"There was a discovery in the north (Java Island) with a height of 140 meters, that the potential for wind in Java is very large," said Jisman at the Socialization of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources 2/2024, Tuesday, March 5.

Apart from Java Island, wind potential was also found in the southern region of Sulawesi Island. With these two areas, he said, the potential for PLTB RI is estimated at 2 gigawatt (GW).

"So the government has to see how this is and I think the reliability of the system will be prioritized. We have asked the Minister (Arifin Tasrif) to increase the flexibility of the PLN subsystem and system by using a smart grid or building a fastest form generation," he said.

Jisman also ensured that his party would accelerate the realization of PLTB by including the potential for PLTB in the latest electricity supply business plan (RUPTL).

Jisman also did not rule out the possibility that the government would cooperate with the private sector in the development of PLTB

"Yes, we'll see. In the end, it will be auctioned off," concluded Jisman.
