BPS Beware Of Ramadan Inflation, This Is A Commodity That Triggers It

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is aware of the potential for an increase in inflation in the month of Ramadan. This is considering the general increase in inflation in February 2024.

Deputy for BPS Production Statistics, M Habibullah said that historically in Ramadan, there has always been an increase in food commodity prices and several commodities that have the potential to increase, such as broiler meat and beef, rice, cooking oil, and sugar.

"Be aware of the general price increase at the moment of Ramadan which is shown from historical data on the development of inflation where at the moment of Ramadan inflation always occurs," Habibullah said at the Press Conference, Friday, March 1.

In addition, Habibullah said that several other commodities that often experience inflation during the month of Ramadan are gold, filtered kretek cigarettes, household fuels, live chickens, and broiler eggs.

According to Habibullah, several commodities that have the potential to contribute greatly to general inflation include food commodities such as broiler meat, cooking oil, rice, live chicken, beef, broiler eggs, and sugar.

As for broiler meat in Ramadan, in April 2020 it contributed 0.05 percent inflation, in April 2021 0.06 percent, in April 2022 0.09 percent, and in March 2023 0.01 percent.

Furthermore, cooking oil in Ramadan, in April 2020 and April 2021 contributed 0.01 percent of inflation, and in April 2022 it was 0.19 percent. Meanwhile, sugar contributed 0.02 percent of inflation in April 2020, and 0.01 percent in April 2022.

Meanwhile, if you look at the development of inflation from 2020 - 2024 month to month in the month of Ramadan, in 2020 general inflation is 0.08 percent, in 2021 inflation is 0.13 percent and in 2022 inflation is 0.95 percent, and in 2023 inflation is 0.18 percent.
