Sandiaga Uno Targets Economic Impact From Ed Sheeran Concert Reaches IDR 100 Billion

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno targets the economic impact of more than Rp. 100 billion from Ed Sheeran's concert in Jakarta.

The British singer is scheduled to perform at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) on March 2, brought by PK Entertainment, the promoter who brought the Coldplay concert at Gelora Bung Karno in November 2023.

The Ed Sheeran + - = Laughs x Tour 2024 concert, which will eventually be held at JIS, is targeted to be watched by up to 50,000 people.

"If you look at the typical spending of domestic tourists up to 50 thousand viewers, the charger is Rp. 2.7 million, the conservative direct impact is more than Rp. 100 billion," Sandiaga said in The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno in Jakarta, quoted Tuesday, February 27.

On the same occasion, PK Entertainment Co-Founder and CEO Harry Sudarma hoped that the event could have a direct or indirect impact on the economy.

"Dampak langsung dari konferensi Ed Sheeran misalnya personel artis yang lebih dari 80. Jadi, pasti ada direct spending yang dilakukan secara hospitality, seperti dari hotel, catering, visa," ujarnya.

For indirect impacts, said Harry, Ed Sheeran's concert is expected to attract foreign tourists to come to Indonesia. This means that there is an impact on booking hotels and planes. Then, there is money spent when they are in Indonesia.

"If we look at tourism people, right, the spending can be 200 percent rather than usual spending. So, it is hoped that it can help the economy and tourism," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy for Tourism Products and the Implementation of Kemenparekraf Activities Vinsensius Jemadu said his party together with PK Entertainment as the promoter continued to strive to improve the holding of quality concerts.

PK Entertainment is a promoter who also signed Coldplay in November 2023.

"Learning from Coldplay's success, we see that the PK Entertainment promoter has further improved the quality of its implementation and indeed this is what we hope that the event will not only be a matter of increasing or from the quantity aspect, but the quality of implementing quality impacts must also be emphasized," he said.

He added that Ed Sheeran's concert with a target of 50,000 spectators is also expected to contribute to the tourism sector and the creative economy (parekraf), which this year is targeted to reach 1.5 billion movements.

"A total of 10 to 15 percent of foreign tourists will attend the concert so that they can contribute to the economy," he added.
