Anticipating Traffic Accidents During Long Weekend, Ministry Of Transportation Increases Tourism Transportation Supervision

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has increased supervision of tourism transportation operating in tourist areas during the long holiday period of Isra Miraj and the 2024 Chinese New Year.

This is done to anticipate traffic accidents and create safe tourism transportation amid the increasing enthusiasm of the community for traveling.

"In connection with the Isra Miraj holiday and the Lunar New Year joint leave, the Directorate General of Land Transportation is here to supervise tourism transportation and bus crews who are actively operating in tourism locations during this long holiday," said Director of Road Traffic Ahmad Yani of the Ministry of Transportation in a written statement, Friday, February 9.

The Directorate General of Land Transportation together with the Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD) and the Provincial/Regency/City Transportation Service supervise the operations of tourism bus transportation operating in tourist locations starting from 7-11 February 2024.

The socialization of data collection and supervision of tourism transportation is carried out in three areas, namely DKI Jakarta, Banten and West Java.

The location for the implementation of this socialization is prioritized in the tourist area as follows:

a. DKI Jakarta: Ancol, Monas, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) and Ragunan;

b. Banten: Anyer Beach and Carita;

c. West Java: Lembang and East Bandung.

The surveillance measures include examination of Evidence of Passing Electronic Tests (BLUE), inspection of Supervision Cards (KPS) and vehicle documentation.

"The surveillance activity aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents during this long holiday. We together with the local government and of course stakeholders from autobus companies will coordinate to create safe tourism transportation for the community," he said.

Yani explained that vehicles that still have not been able to complete technical and roadworthy requirements will be given socialization and action, so that further processing can be carried out to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy.

"In addition to having to be licensed and roadworthy, autobus companies are also important to pay attention to driver's working hours and provide backup drivers because of the relatively long holiday season trips," he said.

Meanwhile, Transportation Observer Djoko Setijowarno said, PO Bus or vehicle owners are also advised to have a Safety Management System that has been regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation (Permenhub) Number 85 of 2018 concerning the Public Transportation Company Safety Management System.

"With the increasing enthusiasm of the tourism community, the local BPTD can ramp check tourism transportation at local tourist locations," he added.

The Directorate General of Land Transportation will continue to increase supervision of tourism buses and AKAP buses.

In addition, the Directorate General of Hubdat will also conduct evaluations and coordination together with relevant stakeholders to maintain the safety of passengers and prioritize safe land transportation.
