JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 5.05 percent in 2023 followed by positive economic growth in several provinces.
Acting (Plt) Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti revealed that North Maluku and Central Sulawesi have recorded the highest economic growth in Indonesia throughout 2023.
"Spatially, economic growth is still growing. The three province groups that have the highest growth are Maluku & Papua, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan. However, Indonesia's spatial economic structure is still concentrated in Java and Sumatra," he said at a press conference, Monday, February 5, 2024.
Meanwhile, economic growth in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua grew above the national economic growth in 2023 which was 5.05 percent where the islands of Kalimantan grew 5.43 percent, Sulawesi 6.37 percent, and Maluku and Papua 6.94 percent.
"The highest economic growth in 2023 in North Maluku reached 20.49 percent. Followed by Central Sulawesi at 11.91 percent," he explained.
According to Amalia, economic growth in North Maluku and Central Sulawesi was mainly driven by the growth of the processing, mining, and excavation industries.
The industry, he continued, is indeed quite large in the two provinces.
Where it comes from the processed mining goods industry, especially the ferronickel industry.
"So the conclusions of industrialization can be drawn or what we call the nickel downstream program in the two provinces has an impact on high economic growth in Maluku and Central Sulawesi," he said.
