RI's National Electricity Capacity Reaches 72,976 MW

PT PLN (Persero) noted that until December 2023, Indonesia's power plant installed capacity was 72,976.30 megawatts (MW).

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that the construction of electricity infrastructure continues to be carried out by PLN to ensure reliable electricity availability for the entire community.

The construction of electricity infrastructure starting from power plants, transmission networks to substations is believed to encourage economic growth and equity.

"The construction of electricity infrastructure is needed to ensure the availability of safe and reliable electrical energy. With this, people's economic activities can run smoothly without problems," Darmawan said in a statement to the media, Monday, January 29.

Darmawan explained, throughout 2023, PLN succeeded in increasing the capacity of power plants to reach 4,182.2 MW. This number even exceeds the target set in the 2023 Company Work Plan and Budget (RKAP), which is 1,487.9 MW.

One of them, PLN has successfully operated the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 192 MWp or the largest in Southeast Asia which was inaugurated directly by President Joko Widodo in November 2023.

"Efforts to provide equal and affordable access to electricity for all Indonesian people continue to be carried out by PLN to support the improvement of the economy and equal distribution nationally," said Darmawan.

Darmawan emphasized that PLN is not only focused on adding power plants, but continues to intensify the construction of transmission networks and substations.

Throughout 2023, PLN has built a 2,806.2 kilometer circuit transmission network (kms) that exceeds the 2023 target of 1,540.8 kms. In total, PLN's transmission assets until December 2023 reached 70,933 kms.

The addition of the transmission network, for example, in March 2023, PLN managed to operate a 150 kV High Voltage Airline (SUTT) Base Bun - Sukamara Line GSW along 88.942 kms and an Extra High Voltage Air Line (SUTET) 275 kV Lumut Balai - Muara Enim Sirkit 1 along 96.660 kms. Then in December 2023, PLN also operated SUTT 150 kV Tapan - Muko-muko for 152.324 kms.

Meanwhile, for the main substation, PLN has also succeeded in adding 41 units of substations with a capacity of 5,660 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) throughout 2023. So, with this addition, now there are a total of 2,367 units of substations with a capacity of 166,727 MVA that have been operating.

The construction of a strategic substation, among others, in April 2023 PLN succeeded in operating the Perawang Extra High Voltage Substation (GITET) 275 kiloVolt (kV) with a capacity of 250 MVA in Riau. In October 2023, PLN also succeeded in building a 500 kV GITET with a capacity of 500 MVA in Muara Enim, South Sumatra and in December 2023 PLN operated a 150 kV Mukomuko substation with a capacity of 60 MVA in Bengkulu.

"The presence of various electricity infrastructures will also continue to be pursued to help move the wheels of the economy, as well as to improve electricity services for people throughout the country," concluded Darmawan.
