Indonesian Fisheries Exports Drop Drastically In 2023, Minister Of KKP: How To Catch It Is Still Barbaric

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) reported that the realization of fishery exports throughout 2023 only reached 5.6 billion US dollars. This figure also dropped dramatically from the realization of exports in 2022 which reached around 6.2 billion US dollars.

"Nationally, (the realization of fishery exports) in 2023 has decreased compared to 2022 which reached 6.2 billion US Dollars," said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono at the Outlook Press Conference & Priority Program for the Marine and Fisheries Sector at the KKP Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 10.

Trenggono did not deny that there were still obstacles faced by Indonesia in terms of fishery exports. One of them is because it has not met export standards from many countries.

In addition, Trenggono said, fishing by Indonesian fishermen is also still brutal. Thus, making Indonesian fishery products have no value in terms of economy or export quality.

"Because the way of arresting (the fisheries) in Indonesia is still barbaric. It is true that our fishing method is barbaric. Overseas arrests are based on demand," he said.

Therefore, Trenggono said, the way for future fishing to be caught must comply with Government Regulation (PP) Number 11 of 2023 concerning measurable fishing (PIT).

So, later only certain fish will have value that can be caught. Thus, every fish caught can make donations to state revenues.

"The implementation of this PIT is one of our policies to go in a better direction," he said.
