PLN Innovation, Electricity Poles Are Used As Places For Charging Electric Cars

JAKARTA - Electric poles can now be used for charging electric cars. This step is a breakthrough between PT PLN (Persero) which has changed the electric pole as a Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) to support the acceleration of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in the country.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that this innovation is a form of PLN's seriousness to support the domestic EV ecosystem infrastructure.

Moreover, continued Darmawan, currently electric vehicles are becoming the prima donna among the community because they are efficient in terms of maintenance and charging costs and the ability to significantly reduce carbon emissions.

"We are very serious about accelerating the electric vehicle ecosystem because it has proven to be more efficient for the community and able to reduce carbon emissions significantly, so that the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target in 2060 can be achieved or even faster," Darmawan said in an official statement, Tuesday, January 9.

Darmawan said PLN EYE or SPKLU with a pole mounted charger type is an innovation to bring an EV Charger by utilizing the PLN power pole. The existence of this EV Charging is expected to reach all electric vehicle users who want to recharge their vehicle batteries.

PLN is committed to supporting the strengthening of the EV ecosystem in the country. Through various innovations that continue to develop, we hope that people will be more confident in turning to electric vehicles because the charging stations are easier to find," said Darmawan.

There Are Three SPKLU PLN EYE

Meanwhile, the President Director of PLN Enjiniring, Chairani Rachmatullah, said that there were already three SPKLU EYE prototypes installed and already operating.

"The distribution is, two at the West Jakarta KS Tubun PLN Office, and one at the Yasporbi Bidakara Elementary School (SD), South Jakarta," he explained.

Currently, he continued, there are two types of SPKLU capacity PLN EYE, namely 7 kilo Watt (kW) and 22 kW designed by PLN Enjiniring for Pole Mounted Charger, both those that are modeled to stick outside (concrete electricity columners) and models to enter the poles (iron pillars).

"Furthermore, an assessment and repairs will be carried out so that in the future it will be standardized for all SPKLU Pole Mounted Charging," he said.

Chairiani also said that thanks to digital transformation, it was easier for PLN SPKLU to be found with the help of PLN Mobile SuperApp. EV users simply open the PLN Mobile application in the electric vehicle menu, so automatically the existence of the nearby PLN SPKLU will be found.
