WK Rokan Is One Of The Piles Of Pursuit Of Oil Production Target 1 Million BOPD

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif said the Rokan Working Area (WK), Riau was one of the pillars to boost oil production as well as pursue the target of 1 million barrels per day (BOPD).

"We are currently working on oil in Rokan," said Arifin, quoted from ANTARA, Friday, January 5.

WK Rokan itself is being attempted to drill non-conventional oil wells (MNK).

"In June, hopefully, the results of the study (MNK well) will come to a conclusion," said Arifin.

It is known, PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) as the manager of WK Rokan is currently working on the production of MNK in Gulamo and Kelok wells in Rokan Hilir (Rohil) Regency, Riau.

The drilling of the MNK well is one of the largest drillings carried out by PHR because it has to penetrate to a depth of 8,500 feet with a rig capacity of 1,500 horsepower (HP).

Previously, the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) revealed that several obstacles that caused oil and gas lifting until October 2023 had not yet reached the target.

Based on SKK Migas data displayed at the Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission VII DPR RI on Thursday, November 30, 2023, oil lifting until October 2023 only reached 604.3 thousand barrels per day (BOPD) or 91.6 percent of the APBN target of 660 thousand BOPD.

Meanwhile, the realization of the gas channel until October 2023 has only reached 5,353 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) or 86.9 percent of the APBN target of 6,160 MMSCFD.

Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto said the problem was due to delays in several oil and gas projects due to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the Tangguh Train 3 and Jambaran Tiung Biru (JTB) projects.

Dwi also revealed that there was a pipe leak at the Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) production facility and also Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Southeast Sumatra (PHE OSES) which also had an impact on oil lifting achievements.
