JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) seeks to improve infrastructure development evenly and fairly throughout Indonesia.

Not only in Java, but to the outermost, frontier and underdeveloped points (3T), including one in the Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, which is directly adjacent to the Philippines.

Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Hedy Rahadian said that one of the areas carried out by the development of connectivity was the Talaud Islands in North Sulawesi.

In 2024, the PUPR Ministry targets all roads on Talaud Island to be connected and completely capable of 199 kilometers (km).

"The connection infrastructure is connected to help improve the local economic base in the Talaud area, such as nutmeg, kopra and fish," Hedy said in a written statement, Thursday, December 28.

Hedy said that the repair of the condition of the paved road had been carried out in stages since 2015 by the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR along 124 km.

Of the total 124 km of damaged roads, from 2015 to 2023, 82 km of road conditions were repaired, and the rest continued in 2024 along 42 km.

"The Ministry of PUPR also paved the road which was originally a 75 km long dirt road," he said.

Road preservation activities are carried out on Jalan Esang-Rainis with a physical progress of 52 percent. Then, on Jalan Beo-Esang-Rainis with a physical progress of 12 percent.

Both activities are targeted for completion by 2024.

Following that, there were Rainis-Melonguane-Beo Road Preservation activities, the Kakorotan Ring and the Miangas Circle, whose physical progress had been completed and reached 100 percent.

"There will also be a replacement of 21 bridges with a total length of 576 meters (m). By 2015 to 2023 19 bridges have been completed. In 2024 it will be continued with the replacement of two bridges, namely the Panding Bridge and the Ambia Bridge," said Hedy.

With the continuation of the road preservation activity, it is targeted that all roads in the Talaud Ring Road will be paved with an applied level of 94 percent by 2024.

The total cost of handling the Talaud Ring Road in 2015-2024 reached IDR 1.13 trillion.
