Mahfud MD 'attacked' About Raising Tax Ratios, Gibran Says This

JAKARTA - Candidate for Vice President Number 2, Gibran Rakabuming Raka in his presentation stated that he would increase the tax ratio to 23 percent. This statement was then again asked by Cawapres number 3, Mahfud MD.

Mahfud said the target byang was set by Prabowo and Gibran did not make sense. The reason is that with this target, economic growth will be projected to increase to 10 percent, even though so far Indonesia's economic growth has ranged from 5 to 6 percent.

"If you can increase the tax ratio, the economic growth rate can be 10 percent. Then how do you want to increase taxes? Just raise tax incentives, people don't take it," Mahfud said in the Vice Presidential Candidate Debate which was broadcasted on the YouTube channel, Friday, December 22.

Gibran answered this question, saying that raising taxes with a tax ratio is two different things.

In the previous segment, Gibran will form a special state revenue agency that will be directly commanded by the head of state.

"So the DGT (Directorate General of Taxes) and Customs and Excise will be merged into one so that it focuses on state revenues only, no longer on spending issues," said Gibran.

Gibran also emphasized the importance of digitization. According to him, currently the Ministry of Finance has prepared an application that is still in the testing and enrichment stage.

"We see that there is already a core tax system that will be prepared and will facilitate business processes and administrative processes, improve tax services. For example, the system will come out later, when we report the annual SPT, there is no need to fill in and calculate because the system is prepopulated, so click click click, just confirm and finish," explained Gibran.

Regarding economic growth, Gibran also mentioned the downstreaming which was a continuation of President Joko Widodo's program.

"Once again, I talked about nickel. Not copper, bauxite, tin, bioethenol, bioavtur, biodiesel. If we are serious, we can really become the king of world energy. But we have to be serious and focused and there is sustainability and improvement," continued Gibran.

At the end of his presentation, Gibran also kbali emphasized that tax revenues and tax ratios are two different things.

He said that in the future if he was elected, his party would not want to hunt in the zoo. On the contrary, he wants to develop the zoo by fatting the animals in it.
