Kaleidoscope 2023: Aggressive Drilling, These Are A Number Of Findings Of Indonesian Oil And Gas Wells

JAKARTA - The government continues to pursue the target of 1 million barrels of oil (BOPD) and 12 million standard cubic feet of gas (MMSCAF) by 2030.

The government is aggressive in drilling because until October 31, 2023, the realization of oil lifting is at the level of 604.3 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) or 91.6 percent of the target set in the APBN of 660,000 BOPD.

Meanwhile, the realization of the gas channel until October 2023 has only reached 5,353 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) or 86.9 percent of the target set in the APBN of 6,160 MMSCFD.

SKK Migas projects that the gas line will reach 5,400 MMSCFD or 87.7 percent of the APBN target in December 2023.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Replacement Ratio (RR) or the ratio of replacement reserves, especially exploration, can still be maintained above the 100 percent average.

For this reason, the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) through Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) is aggressively exploring oil and gas wells.

Based on SKK Migas records, until October 31, the KKKS found 9 exploration wells with total inplaced resources of approximately 430.26 MMBOE.

Here are some exploration wells found by the KKKS throughout 2023:

1. North Gang

One of the major findings this year is the North Gang in North Ganal Block, East Kalimantan which was discovered by an oil and gas company from Italy, ENI on October 2, 2023.

SKK Migas said that to explore one well, it costs at least 100 million US dollars because it is located off the coast with an inplicit hydrocarbon estimate of 5.3 TCF of gas and 380 MBOE of oil.

Later, the North Gang's gas will be distributed to Bontang Plant and industry in Kalimantan. Thus, he said, it will revive the operations of Bontang Plant from two trains to 4 trains.

The discovery of the North-1 Gang gas field in East Kalimantan is predicted to be the largest gas reserves in the world, so that it will spur gas production as energy transition to clean energy.

SKK Migas ensures that ENI will accelerate the development of the North Gang by adopting what has been done in the oil and gas fields in Egypt and on stream in 2027.

2. Adiwarna-1x

The Adiwarna-1X well was built by a subsidiary of Pertamina, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam. The well, which is located in South Mahakam Field, has gas and condensate findings.

This finding is the second time for PHM after previously successfully finding oil and gas in the Manpatu-1X exploration well in early 2022.

3. Arun A-55a

The Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA) and PT Pemap Global Energi (PGE) on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 announced hydrocarbon findings from upstream oil and gas business activities in Aceh's working area, precisely in the Arun Block B North Aceh area, especially A-55A wells.

4. Polaris D-1X

In early 2023, to be precise in March, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga (PHSS), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) has just carried out exploration drilling tax at the D-1X Polaris Exploration Well.

The D-1X Polaris Exploration Well is one of 4 Commitment Exploration wells for sure in the Sangasanga area.

5. BLN-01

BLN-01, located in Buluh Nipis Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency, is the first oil and gas exploration well carried out by PT EMP Tunas Energi on Thursday 27 July.

The BLN-01 well will be drilled 1,950 feet deep or about 700 meters deep.

After this drilling is complete, EMP Tunas Energi as the contractor plans to drill in the southern part. In addition, there will also be 2D and 3D seismic surveys.

6. SEM-1X

SKK Migas reported the findings of the South East Mandala or SEM-1x oil well by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Ogan Komering.

However, there is no further information regarding the potential for oil and gas reserves to be included in this well.

7. North-1 cold

In February 2023, PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) conducted the inaugural tax for the North-1 Si Cool exploration well (SDN-1) located in Banjar XII Village, Tanah Putih District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau. This drilling process uses a Rig with a depth of 8,000 feet.

8. Rahmat-1

Well Rahmat-1 is a re-entry well drilled by KKKS Odira Energy Karang Agung and is located in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra.

For your information, re-entry is a method of re-entering well pipes with the aim of boosting oil production.

The drilling of Sumur Rahmat'01 Re-Entry opens an easy thing. The Tiga Musim Mas Jaya (TMMJ) #23 rig was taken from the Belato #04 Well drilling location in Jambi to the location of the Rahmat 1 well which is 517 Kilometers away.

It is planned that the development of the results of the Rahmat-1 well will be used to supply power plants that are used to meet electricity needs in the local area.

9. EWO-001

The East Wolai (EWO)-001 well is located in the Donggi field, precisely in Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi. The exploration well will be vertically drilled using Rig PDSI #04.3/N-110M1 (1500 HP) with the final depth plan of the well at 2,290 mTVDs.

Until now, the status of this well is being drilled by a hole of 17-1/2 and a depth of 533 feet.

There is no further information regarding the amount of gas reserves contained in it.
