President Director: Papuan Indigenous People Are Freeport Indonesia's Top Priority

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) said that Indigenous Papuans (OAP) are the main priority of the mining company so that currently many indigenous Papuan sons and daughters have had a career and occupy strategic positions in PTFI.

PTFI President Director Toni Wenas in Timika, Sunday, December 10, said that since the beginning the commitment from the mining company was very large for the Papuan people because PTFI is part of Papua.

"We have been in Papua for 57 years, so our strong and great commitment must grow and develop with the Papuan people," he said, quoted from Antara.

According to Toni, currently the original Papuan workers who have a career at PTFI are 40 percent and one member of the board of directors is the best son of the native Papuans.

"There are nine vice presidents of Papuan native children and 150 managerials of Papuan native children, this is part of OAP's priority commitment," he said.

He explained that PTFI also has a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program for indigenous Papuans around mining sites, namely village-based education, health and economic programs.

"The PTFI CSR program will continue until the end of mining activities later, because we are part of the Papuan people," he said again.

He added that PTFI will continue to make breakthroughs in the form of new work programs for the interests of indigenous Papuans.

"We believe that there is no successful company among the people who fail, for that PTFI will always be there to empower and prosper indigenous Papuan people," he said again.
