Pelni Projects Passengers At Christmas And New Year's Reaching 598,276 People

PT Persero Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) has coordinated the total passengers on the 2023 Christmas Sea Transport and 2024 New Year's, reaching 598,276 people.

This figure is up 17 percent compared to the Christmas 2022 Sea Transport and the 2023 New Year as many as 510,720 people.

"For the projected passengers in 2023/2024, we project (an increase) of 17 percent compared to 2023/2023, which is at 598,276 people," said Pelni Passenger Transport Business Director Nuraini Dessy during a press conference on PT Pelni (Persero) Readiness to Serve Christmas Transportation 2023 and 2024 in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, December 8.

Pelni also projects that the peak of pre-Christmas passenger density will occur on D-3 or 22 December 2023 as many as 31,176 people. Meanwhile, the peak of post-Christmas and New Year 2024 passenger density occurred on D+10 or January 4, 2023 as many as 26,465 people.

Pelni set the Christmas Sea Transportation period 2023 and New Year 2024 on D-14 or December 11, 2023 to D+14 or January 8, 2024.

Furthermore, Dessy said that for the Christmas 2023 Sea Transport and 2024 New Year periods, Pelni provided a total of 26 passenger ships with a total of 50,832 seats and 42 pioneer ships with a total of 15,978 seats.

To deal with this period, said Dessy, Pelni has also ensured the readiness of the fleet through the implementation of ramp checks, monitoring the availability of fuel, all ships operating during the peak season period and no one carrying out docking and all sea-worthy and operating vessels.

Furthermore, there is an adjustment to the route and schedule of ships by rerouting ships to accommodate the surge in passengers on certain sections and adjusting schedules to accommodate ship arrivals in certain areas.

Next, posko and monitoring activities by carrying out coordination posts (posko) in all Pelni branches together with related agencies, the head office post and the Ministry of Transportation post.

Pelni has also opened ticket sales for the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 periods since D-35 or November 17, 2023 through websites, travel agents, online channels, contact centers and minimarkets.
