SPAM Kali Dendeng Inaugurated, Help Serve Drinking Water For Kupang City People

JAKARTA - The Kali Dendeng Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara, was inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

The construction of SPAM Kali Dendeng is an effort by the government to improve access and safe drinking water services for the people of Kupang City through increasing the pipeline network.

SPAM Kali Dendeng was built by the Ministry of PUPR through the NTT Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of the Directorate General of Human Settlements with contractor PT Nindya Karya since 2020 and has been completed in 2022.

Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti said, SPAM Kali Dendeng, which is equipped with a modern system with controls through SCADA, can produce quality clean water and be beneficial for the welfare of the people of Kupang City.

"As we all know, the area here really needs water because the existing sources are limited. The coverage is only 10 percent, but with the construction of SPAM Kali Dendeng, the capacity of 150 liters per second will really help Kupang City," Diana said in a written statement received by VOI, Thursday, December 7.

Meanwhile, the Head of RT 07 RW III, Alak Matheos District, Tefa, expressed his gratitude for the construction of SPAM Kali Dendeng. According to Matheos, the people of Alak District previously used well water, but if it enters the dry dry dry dry dry season and must buy tank water.

"We previously bought one tank of water every month for Rp. 400 thousand, but in the past two years we have had no water difficulties because there is SPAM Kali Dendeng serving water for the people of RT 07 which is very good, flowing every day," he said.

For your information, the construction of the Kali Dendeng SPAM uses an APBN worth IDR 173 billion which is used for the construction of an intake, a precessional tub, a Drinking Water Processing Installation (IPA), a reservoir with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters in Alak Baru, a reservoir with a capacity of 100 cubic meters, as well as a network of transmission and distribution pipelines.

SPAM Kali Dendeng itself has a capacity of 150 liters per second which is projected to increase the coverage of piped drinking water services in three sub-districts of Kupang City, namely Alak District 17.8 percent, Kota Lama 2.1 percent, and Kota Raja 8.5 percent of the total service of 15,000 house connections (SR).
