Ahead Of Christmas And New Year, KAI Inspects Cross-Island Trains In Java

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI together with railway stakeholders conducted inspections to various regions on the island of Java.

This inspection activity aims to check the readiness of various aspects ahead of the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year (Nataru) Transportation.

The inspection of this train began yesterday, Tuesday, December 5 to Thursday, December 7, 2023.

KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo said the 2024 Nataru period was a peak season for KAI. Therefore, it is necessary to check to ensure safety and comfort.

KAI itself has set the Bataru 2024 transportation period to last for 18 days, starting from December 21, 2023 to January 7, 2024.

"Christmas and New Year's Transportation is one of the peak season train trips. We are doing this check to ensure that train travel during Christmas and New Year's Transportation will run safely, comfortably, and safely to their destination," he said in an official statement, Wednesday, December 6.

Didiek said the inspections included safety and service aspects.

For this reason, in this inspection, the readiness of facilities and infrastructure, station facilities, readiness of human resources, and other supporting aspects are ensured in prime condition.

The train inspection journey is divided into two trips, namely the north and south routes of Java Island. The cross-section of Java starts from Gambir Station to Cirebon, Semarang Tawang, Surabaya Pasar Turi, Ketapang, to Surabaya Gubeng," said Didiek.

As for the southern route, continued Didiek, the journey starts from Gambir Station, Bandung, Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, Solo Balapan, Madiun, to Surabaya Gubeng. In addition to the Commissioner and Directors of KAI, they participated in the inspection by the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation.

Didiek said that on this trip, there were also identifications of vulnerable points that had to be guarded extra, considering that the Christmas and New Year's transportation coincided with the arrival of the rainy season.

KAI anticipates 243 vulnerable points consisting of floods, landslides, and subsidence. KAI also anticipates security at level crossings. As of November 2023, the number of field crossings is 3,693. KAI has also alerted thousands of extra lane inspectors, extra crossing gate guards, and extra-prone postal officers," he said.

In addition, KAI is preparing a crisis management strategy called Equipment, Material, for Alert (AMUS).

In addition to alerting a special field personnel team, this strategy also provides tools and materials that are placed along the railway line.
