JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is optimistic that foreign tourist visits to Indonesia until the end of the year can reach 11 million.

"So we hope that the arrival rate of foreign tourists can reach 11 million, which is an increase from the target of 8.5 million in 2023," said Sandiaga Uno, quoted from ANTARA, Tuesday, December 5.

Sandiaga said, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the achievement of foreign tourist visits in October 2023 was dominated by visits from Malaysia.

"Who visited Indonesia? Malaysia 14.16 percent, Australia 13.18 percent, Singapore 9.1 percent, China 7.7 percent and Timor Leste 6.02 percent," said Sandiaga.

Meanwhile, foreign tourists' visits were dominated by air transportation modes in October 2023 which reached 707,584 with the main doors of I Gusti Ngurah Rai and Soekarno Hatta Airports, followed by sea transportation modes recorded at 114,022 and land transportation modes at 23,543.

He predicts that the movement of the community during the Christmas and New Year 2024 (Nataru) holiday season will reach 200-250 million.

"So the total target is Christmas and New Year's 200-250 million," he said.

Based on data from the Ministry of Transportation, he continued, it is estimated that 100 million people will move during the Nataru holiday.

He also targets foreign tourist visits (tourists) of 1 million visits to be exceeded in December 2023 when coupled with the cumulative achievement from January to October which has exceeded the target of 9.49 million foreign tourist visits.
