JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono revealed that superior human resources (HR) are solutions to development challenges.

"Why is national school or human resource development so much needed. First, only with human resources that are superior in national competitiveness can we be better and compete globally, it is impossible to compete only by relying on their natural wealth," Basuki said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, November 25.

He said that human resource development was also needed to answer the challenges of urbanization and equity in national development.

Citing data from the Inter-Census Population Survey, he continued, in 2020 there will be 57 percent of Indonesia's population living in cities (urban) and it is predicted that by 2045 more than 70 percent of Indonesia's population will live in urban areas.

This urbanization can become a growth engine or instead become a burden depending on regulations, planning and financing. This means that in terms of infrastructure and facilities, it must be prepared, be it the need for drinking water, sanitation, transportation, energy, and communication. The knowledge gained will also determine Indonesia's future developments," said Basuki.

Furthermore, the next challenge for development in Indonesia is the inter-regional gap.

"This is still our challenge going forward to be able to equalize development and also focus on development in each archipelago which must be developed according to local wisdom and wealth. For this reason, knowledge and technology are needed that are appropriate for each region," said Basuki.

According to him, the last challenges in national development are environmental degradation, natural disasters, and climate change which are also needed by science and technology that must be controlled by Indonesian human resources to overcome them.

"Schools change their way of life, both in private and national ways of life," said Basuki.
