JAKARTA - The PIS Mahakam ship owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) officially operates by transporting petrochemical methanol cargo from Bontang - East Kalimantan to Gresik - East Java. In this inaugural shipment, PIS Mahakan transported 7000 metric tons of methanol from East Kalimantan Methanol Industri through a collaboration between PIS and PT Hutama Trans Kencana.
"This transportation also marks the company's commitment to cargo transportation of non-captured market expansion from PIS," said PIS Muh Corporate Secretary Aryomekka Firdaus, Friday, October 20.
He explained that PIS Mahakam is the latest small tanker from PIS specifically for transporting petrochemical cargo. This ship has obtained IMO 2 certification provided by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which means it has met international standards for transporting petrochemicals.
Since being acquired last August, the ship has entered the docking process for improving the operational quality of ships at the shipyard facility in Batam and is now ready to operate.
