Reach Target, Number Of Tourist Visits Reaches 7.4 Million People As Of August 2023

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) noted that the number of foreign tourist visits (tourists) who came to Indonesia reached 1.1 million visits. Cumulatively, the total number of foreign tourist visits from January-August 2023 reached 7.44 million visits.

This number increased 1.02 percent compared to July 2023 and rose 68.92 percent compared to August 2023 (yoy).

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno assessed that this figure had succeeded in solving the target for foreign tourists visiting at the beginning of the year.

"That the revival of tourism and the creative economy began to be felt and began to stretch. From the target of 7.4 million foreign tourists at the beginning of the year and revised to 8.5 million foreign tourists in the middle of the year," said Menparekraf Sandiaga in a written statement, Tuesday, October 10.

Sandiaga said, there will still be four months to pursue the target of 8.5 million foreign tourists by the end of the year.

"I am optimistic that the target of 8.5 million foreign tourists by the end of the year will be significantly exceeded by 15-20 percent or 10 million to 11 million foreign tourists visiting," he said.

He explained that foreign tourists visiting in August 2023 were dominated by Malaysia by 15.43 percent, followed by Australia 11.39 percent, and Singapore 9.31 percent.

The increase in visits was mainly recorded at the gate of Ngurah Rai Airport, which increased by 280.74 percent and Soekarno Hatta Airport which increased by 158.64 percent.

"This number of visits is equivalent to 136 percent of the total foreign tourist visits throughout 2022," he added.
