JAKARTA - PT RMK Energy Tbk seeks to control the impact of coal dust in the RMKE operational area by implementing new technology in all its operational lines.

The steps taken by RMKE are the addition of a big gun sprinkler and water sprayer at the stockpile, scripter, and conveyor belts locations to spray the coaldust suppressant chemical (chemicals to reduce dust effects) on all RMKE operational activities in Musi 2.

In addition to spraying the processed industrial suppressant chemical, the addition of water canons and the frequency of water truck watering are also carried out to reduce dust pollution.

RMKE Operations Director William Saputra said, in the near future, the Company is also planning to add telescopic chatte technology mounted on the conveyor belt area to reduce the impact of dust pollution when loading into the barge.

Currently, the Company is still using a type of sheath for dust protection when coal loading operations to the barge is running.

"The company also always carries out regular monitoring to better maintain the quality of the waste water quality below the (normal) threshold," William said in his statement to the media, Tuesday, October 3.

Meanwhile, he said, all improvement efforts are being made by the Company in accordance with the recommendations provided by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the Environmental Service (DLH) of South Sumatra Province, as well as the results of studies from experts and company consultants.

"The company is currently progressing to ensure that all recommendations provided by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Environment can be met immediately. The Company is working with various parties so that the dust problem can be resolved immediately through technological and infrastructure modifications which will soon be implemented thoroughly," explained William.

Although there are still some tools that are in the ordering period because they must be imported from abroad, he said, some improvements such as optimizing water trucks and water sprayers are already operating so that they can significantly reduce coal dust carried by the wind.

"Not only the Company, we also hope that all entities operating along the Musi river can jointly make the same efforts to control air pollution by implementing good mining practice in its business operations," concluded William.
