This Is PGN's Strategy To Achieve Potential Industrial And Electricity Demand In The Batam Region

JAKARTA - PT PGN (Tbk) has prepared various strategies to meet gas needs in the Batam area and its surroundings.

Just so you know, overall, the volume of gas trading in the Batam area until June 2023 is 90.62 BBTUD.

The largest gas recipient was a power plant of 82 percent and was followed by the industrial sector.

This large absorption is symmetric with the potential for demand growth in the industrial sector and electricity in the Riau Islands, especially on the islands of Batam, Bintan and Kundur.

Director of Human Resources and Business Support, Beni Syarif Hidayat, said the strategy implemented was the integration of PGN's infrastructure and services in the Batam area to meet natural gas needs for households, industry, transportation and electricity, as well as operation excellence gas delivery.

PGN also continues to anticipate the potential growth of gas demand in other regions by continuing to focus on developing infrastructure both through pipes and other transportation modes, especially for areas that have not been reached by pipes," he explained to the media, Monday, August 28.

He explained that the supply for gas distribution in the Batam area was sourced from Corridor Block and Jambi Merang which was channeled through the Grissik 'Singapore' transmission pipeline operated by PT Transport Gas Indonesia (TGI) as a subsidiary of PGN which also manages gas transmission and pipeline capacity optimization in a safety and professional manner in Batam.

PGN is working on increasing gas supply for the Batam area. We project it from gas sources in Sumatra and West Natuna. In addition to supply security, it also supports demand growth and additional customers," added PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development Harry Budi Sidharta.

PGN has a distribution pipe of 273.46 KM in the Batam area to distribute natural gas to 5,971 customers with a composition of 4,806 household customers, 65 small customers, 100 commercial or industrial customers, and 6 power plants.

Sales Area Head of PGN Batam, Wendi Purwanto added that PGN's natural gas infrastructure in the Batam area was spread and passed through several industrial areas such as Tanjung Uncang, Panbil, Batamdo, Kabil, Batam Center, and Lubuk Baja.

In Batam, natural gas products or services are available for various needs. Starting from Synergy, GasKita, Gasku, and Gaslink," explained Wendi.

Synergy is the provision of PGN's natural gas energy through pipes for the power generation sector and manufacturing industry.

Meanwhile, GasKita is a PGN product to serve gas needs for households and small businesses. PGN also provides CNG-based gas through Gaslink products for the industrial and commercial sectors (beyond pipelines) and Gasku products for the transportation sector that are affordable, safe, and efficient.
