Textile Industry Predicted To Stretch Ahead Of Political Year 2024

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said the textile industry is projected to expand ahead of the political year in 2024.

This was revealed by the Acting Director General of Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Textile Industries (IKFT) of the Ministry of Industry, Ignatius Warsito when met by reporters at the Ministry of Industry Building, Jakarta, Monday, July 31.

"With so many parties, of course, right, it stimulates our garment. It also has an impact upstream, both fabrics and threads. I am optimistic that in the political year it will be a blessing for the textile industry and textile products," he said.

Although he did not mention in detail the projected growth of the textile industry in the political year, Warsito believes that this political year's campaign activities will be quite massive.

Moreover, based on data from the General Elections Commission (KPU), the total number of voters for the 2024 General Election is predicted to reach 206 million people, of which it is projected that around 110 million people aged 20-44 years will take part in the 2024 General Election.

"It will have an impact on the party's t-shirts," he said.

He also assessed that the 2024 election contestation would have a more impact on the domestic textile industry. Given that the upcoming 2024 General Election is not only the Presidential Election (Pilpres), but also the Regional Head Election (Pilkada).

"I think this year is better because it is consolidated, together with the Pilkada, the presidential election. That's exciting for our industry. That's what I expected," concluded Warsito.

Previously, Indonesia's Manufacturing PMI in June 2023 was able to surpass the ASEAN Manufacturing PMI (51.0), Malaysia (47.7), Myanmar (50.4), Philippines (50.9), Taiwan (44.8), Vietnam (46.2), Japan (49.8), China (50.5), South Korea (47.8), England (46.2), and France (45.5).

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the increase in Indonesia's Manufacturing PMI in June was in line with the increase in the Industrial Trust Index (IKI) which reached 53.93 or an increase of 3.03 points compared to May 2023.

Although the manufacturing conditions nationally show an expansive level, the government admits that the textile and textile product (TPT) industry is still experiencing contraction. This industry even includes being one of the three manufacturing sub-sectors that experienced contraction in the IKI survey in June 2023.

Agus said that the cause of the textile industry was still suffering because the domestic market was flooded with imported products, especially those that entered through the PLB ( Bonded Logistics Center).

"The Ministry of Industry asks for strict supervision of goods leaving the PLB that enter the domestic market, as well as of the marketplace which is also the entry point for imported textile products," he said.
