Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Collaborates With Hitachi To Sign LoI For Green Energy Technology Development

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) cooperates with Hitachi Energy to carry out the signing of a Letter of Intentent (LoI) related to the development of environmentally friendly technology carried out by Acting Secretary General of KESDM Dadan Kusdiana with Regional Head South Asia Hitachi Energy N Venu.

The signing of LoI is a follow-up to the meeting of ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif with Global Hitachi Energy CEO Claudio Facchin in Zurich, Switzerland, in January this year.

After witnessing the signing, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif said, in 2060 the electricity demand in Indonesia is predicted to reach 1.942 TWh.

To supply this need, the Indonesian government has also made a roadmap to build a power plant from New Renewable Energy (EBT) of 700 GW until 2060.

"To achieve this, we need support in terms of technology, industry, and infrastructure from all stakeholders," said Arifin, quoted on Tuesday, June 20.

Arifin added that the big challenge in providing EBT electricity is electricity infrastructure, considering that Indonesia is an archipelagic country that has different energy sources from one another.

For this reason, the government has also prepared a national supergrid program, to connect between islands in Indonesia, especially on large islands in Indonesia.

"Now we are trying to connect from North Sumatra Island to East Java Island," he added.

Arifin said that to accelerate the program, collaboration and cooperation with all stakeholders, both national and international, are needed, one of which is with Hitachi Energy, where Hitachi Energy is one of the companies that has the technology and digital transformation needed to accelerate energy transition.

On the same occasion, Plt. Secretary General of KESDM Dadan Kusdiana in his report said that the LoI between KESDM and Hitachi was to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia.

"The agreement made by both parties is by transfer of knowledge, joint studies, to solutions to technology development, especially in the field of electricity infrastructure," he explained.

Meanwhile, Hitachi Energy CEO Claudio Facchin said that Hitachi Energy strongly supports the government to achieve the set target, where accelerating energy transition is key to NZE and overcoming climate emergency.

"We are very pleased to be able to strengthen our long-term relationship in Indonesia and support the government to achieve its ambitious targets. The focus of this area of technical collaboration includes integration of renewable energy, interconnectors, quality of power, Grid Edge technology, as well as digital solutions to deal with new supply complexity and electricity demand. This is a good example of collaboration to achieve common goals in advancing sustainable energy in the future for everyone," he said.

In addition to the signing ceremony of LoI, a workshop was also held which was divided into two sessions, where the morning session was held at the Office of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and the afternoon session was held at the Pullman Hotel which was attended by around 150 participants consisting of representatives of KESDM, PLN, practitioners, associations, and academics.
