SAMARINDA - Governor of East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) Isran Noor has scheduled a working visit to three countries in America in May 2023.

The three countries that are the destination of Isran Noor with the East Kalimantan Provincial Government group are Brazil, the United States, and Mexico.

"On the first visit, namely May 2 to 7, we will go to Brazil to see tropical and Brazilian forest areas also become one of the carbon producers like the province of East Kalimantan," said Isran Noor in Samarinda, Tuesday.

Furthermore, on May 8 and 9, Isran Noor will visit the World Bank in the United States also regarding the issue of agreement ratification in the sale and purchase of carbon, because this world financial institution has data and East Kalimantan data is in the World Bank.

"Then on May 11 and 12, to Yucatan Mexico. Because Yuca has a strong commitment in terms of compensation for countries that carry out successful emission reductions such as East Kalimantan," he said.

Isran said the Mexican government had prepared a fund of 10 million pounds sterling over the next 10 years for compensation funds for reducing emissions.

"On average a year Mexico has spent 3 million pounds sterling. This is what I want to pursue," he continued, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 25.

Estimates from experts on carbon, continued Isran, East Kalimantan are only assessed at 30 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq) until 2021, meaning that in 2022, 2023, and 2024 it can reach approximately 100 million tons of CO2eq. Meanwhile, the price of the carbon market is not 5 US dollars but above 10 US dollars per ton.

Isran Noor emphasized that until now East Kalimantan is still struggling to get increased regional revenue through revenue sharing from natural resources, such as palm oil and selling carbon.

"In addition to carbon emissions, East Kalimantan is also struggling for the palm Revenue Sharing Fund (DBH) which is currently being fought for by oil palm-producing areas," he concluded.
