Ready To Supply Clean Energy, PLN Successfully Trials Biogas Power Plant In Riau
PLN has successfully conducted a biogas trial as a power plant in Pekanbaru.

PT PLN (Persero) has successfully carried out a trial operation of the Pasadena Biogas Power Plant (PLTBg) in Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province.

General Manager of PLN Riau and Riau Islands Distribution Main Unit (UIDRKR), Agung Murdifi explained, this PLTBg is based on palm liquid waste which has several advantages, including reliable, environmentally friendly, which can operate 24 hours, stable and not influenced by weather factors. Thus, the electricity produced is relatively cheaper compared to fuel-oil-based electricity technology.

"Currently, PLTBg Pasadena has a capacity of 3x1 megawatts (MW). This EBT plant will soon join the PLN distribution system and is expected to strengthen the electricity system in Riau Province. Currently, PLTBg Pasadena is in the testing phase and is targeted to operate at the end of April 2023," said Agung, quoted by VOI Thursday, April 20.

As a State-Owned Enterprise, said Agung, PLN has a responsibility to increase the energy mix and carry out energy transitions to support Indonesia in realizing the NZE 2060 target. However, he said, PLN cannot work alone in realizing the energy transition program.

Therefore, PLN needs support, both from the government, stakeholders, the community and partners. For this reason, the operation of this PLTBg is one of the collaborations of PLN in presenting the New Renewable Energy (EBT) power plant which has been regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 4 of 2020.

"Indonesia has many potential energy resources that can be used to expand the energy mix, one of which is through the use of biogas. In Riau, PLN together with PT Pasadena Biofuels Mandiri collaborate to use biogas to produce clean energy through the PLTBg Pasadena EBT Generation," concluded Agung.
