Prevent Repetitive Work Accidents, SKK Migas Will Perform Safety Audit

Deputy for Exploitation of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) Wahju Wibowo admitted that he would conduct a safety audit of Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) to reduce the number of work accidents in the upstream oil and gas industry.

"From there, an organization that is effective or not in running its safety management system will emerge," he said in a media discussion quoted on Thursday, April 6.

According to Wahju, later based on the results of the audit, his party will not dismiss or remove the position of the person in charge of the KKKS, but SKK Migas will require the contractor to prepare a budget to ensure that the work in the upstream oil and gas sector continues to run safely.

"If it is not effective, it will continue to be fired, it will not solve the problem. It's better if we do an audit to the KKKS, we know it is not effective, it means that there is a gap that must be covered up," continued Wahju.

He continued, later SKK Migas will also require KKKS to provide sufficient budget for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE).

"Later in Work Program & Budget we will force them to provide enough budget for that," he said.

Just so you know, SKK Migas has declared 2023 as the year the national oil and gas production enters the online phase.

This determination was supported by massive investments reaching US$15.5 billion and aggressive programs, one of which was drilling the 2023 development well which was targeted at 991 wells or 30.4 percent higher than last year's realization of well drilling.

As an industry with high risk, health safety & environment (HSE) is a priority in the upstream oil and gas industry, so SKK Migas always pays attention and supervision that is inherent in the implementation of HSE in the national oil and gas industry.

The upstream oil and gas investment will be absorbed in drilling activities with the largest portion. Therefore, SKK Migas pays special attention and carries out strict supervision in the implementation of drilling activities. We emphasize that everyone must have high self awareness of safety and make safety not only a priority but as a value," concluded Wahju.
