JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed a series of benefits for the conversion of conventional oil-fueled motorcycles into electric motorcycles.

Previously, the government officially launched the electricity motor conversion subsidy assistance on Tuesday, March 4.

The Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana, on the website of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, quoted from Antara Wednesday, April 5, said that the implementation of motorcycle conversion is a form of implementation of the mandate of Presidential Regulation Number 5 of 2020.

"The implementation of this motorcycle conversion also aims to support the development of the KBLBB ecosystem or battery-based electric motor vehicles to reduce fuel imports and support reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including of course vehicle sound emissions," he said.

He said the background of the program is the government's commitment to reduce 31.8 percent of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, reduce fuel imports, and compensation by the government and save fuel costs for the community.

"The government hopes that the benefits of this conversion program can be felt by the entire community, such as for the owner of this motorcycle with the calculation of the price of Pertalite last month to Rp27.7 million per year. Then, in terms of Pertalite savings from the government amounting to Rp18.6 billion, this is if we convert it by 50,000 units," said Dadan.

To accelerate the realization of the KBLBB ecosystem, the government has also issued two incentive models, namely, incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles as stated in the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 38 of 2023 and Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 3 of 2023.

In the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 3 of 2023, it is said that the target recipients of government assistance in 2023 are 50,000 units and next year 150,000 units with the amount of assistance provided Rp. 7 million per unit for conversion motors.

"The government assistance provided is IDR 7 million per unit of a converted motorcycle, this is approximately half equivalent of the conversion fee for this year and we hope that next year with the development of later in terms of the manufacturing of the provision of components. the total cost of this conversion can be lowered," he said.

In addition, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources stated that the conversion program will have a positive impact on increasing electricity consumption by 15 GWh, reducing emissions by 30,000 tons and reducing fuel imports by 20,000 kiloliters which directly saves state foreign exchange of 10 million US dollars.

Then, create new jobs from conversion workshops, both recently formed and from the emergence of new workshops and the emergence of components industries that support these conversion activities.

The provision of government assistance for the conversion of electric motors will be carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to the community through a conversion workshop based on the results of verification carried out.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that currently the total conversion capacity carried out is almost 2,000 units per month, so to meet the target of 50,000 units by 2023, an additional requirement is needed from existing conversion workshops.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will conduct training in several places, including in Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, and Balikpapan. Through this effort, it is hoped that it will increase the conversion capacity to almost one million units per year.

Furthermore, Dadan explained that people who want to convert their fuel vehicles into electric motorcycles can visit digital platforms that have been built (in the finalization stage) by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

"The government has created a digital platform for this conversion program, with this digital platform, motor owners who want to convert do not need to come directly to the workshop, can use a digital platform which is currently in the finalization stage," he said.

According to Dadan, the digital platform consists of four main components, namely online media for registration, media for conversion workshops, and reporting in terms of quality.

"We will later ensure through this digital platform that the converted motorbike has passed the title test certificate from the Ministry of Transportation, only after that will the Rp7 million be disbursed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources," he said.
