Mrs. Sri Mulyani, The Most Corruption Nests Are In Customs And Taxes

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD revealed that the decline in the corruption perception index in Indonesia was mainly due to the performance of state officials engaged in the public service sector.

He said there was one strategic ministry that was considered a hotbed of corruption at this time. Even Mahfud said he was reprimanded by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for the decline in domestic corruption perceptions.

"I reported to the President, I have invited Transparency International to ask for data on why this happened. It turns out that what has gone down is in the field of public services, especially corruption in customs and taxation (Ministry of Finance). Clear the explanation," he said when he visited Commission III of the DPR at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta in the middle of this week.

Apart from the Ministry of Finance, Mahfud stated that corruption practices are also rampant in the system of government organizations.

"People now pay if they want to be promoted, if they don't have a channel they can't," he said.

Previously, Mahfud MD was one of the vocal people in voicing the alleged money laundering within the Ministry of Finance.

According to him, based on a report from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), there were around Rp. 300 trillion suspicious transactions at the agency led by Sri Mulyani. Later, PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana said the suspicious transaction value reached Rp. 349 trillion.
