JAKARTA - Indonesia has a great opportunity in forming experts in the field of electricity, industrial automation and renewable energy through vocational education.

The Directorate General of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Saryadi, said the 4.0 revolution in the global industry would create high demand for electricity experts, industrial automation and renewable energy.

Saryadi said that to meet the needs of these experts, the government is intensively collaborating with various parties, one of which is with the French Embassy, namely Schneider Electric Global through the Center of Excellence (CoE) program.

CoE itself is an assistance program from the industry to improve the quality and upskilling of students and teachers with its construction being carried out at the Center for Development of Vocational Education Quality for the Industrial and Engineering Sector (BBPPMPV BMTI) since 2017.

"BBPPMPV BMTI in Cimahi is a place for CoE facilities," he said, quoting Antara.

Now the construction of CoE at BBPPMPV BMTI is the largest investment provided by Schneider Electric Global in increasing vocational education in Indonesia for electricity, industrial automation and renewable energy.

Professional development in the implementation of the CoE program is led by a French expert, while the curriculum is aligned with the Indonesian National Work Competency Standard (SKKNI).

According to him, CoE will be able to present competent and competent human resources (HR) to industry standards, so that it can be a way for link and match between vocational education and industry.

"This cooperation can increase the commitment of all parties involved to advance vocational education," said Saryadi.

Representative from Schneider Electric Group Gwenaelle said that her party had invested in training kits worth Rp. 10 billion at the CoE facility in Cimahi which was used to finance the 40 SMK training kit.

This is in line with Schneider Electric Global's ambition, which is to train one million youths in energy management, automation and all relevant soft skills to overcome future challenges.

"Indonesia is the largest CoE we invest in from 11 COEs in the world," said Gwenaelle.

Schneider Electric also invests in vocational education in Indonesia through revitalization of 184 SMK laboratory training devices, which has an impact on 24,800 students, 402 teachers and technicians who are now trained.

Stephane Dovart as the Coordinating Board for the French Embassy added that Indonesia has strength in the industrial and economic fields, especially with the large number of SMKs, which is around 14,000.

"This indicates a lot of Indonesian human resources and can be trained to improve their quality," said Stephane.
