Data Service Traffic Is Predicted To Grow 11.2 Percent During Ramadan, This Anticipates Telkomsel

JAKARTA - Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1444 H (RAFI 2023), PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) predicts that data/broadband service traffic will grow by 11.2 percent.

This growth is estimated from the growth of public digital activity during RAFI 2023, such as access to social media services that jumped to 6.2 percent, communication services (instant messaging and video conferencing) around 20 percent, video streaming services grew 15.6 percent, mobile gaming services rose 32.4 percent, browsing access jumped 2.4 percent, and e-commerce service access increased seven percent.

Meanwhile, voice call service traffic is projected to decrease by 8.5 percent, and short message services (SMS) grow by around 7.1 percent.

President Director of Telkomsel Hendri Mulya Syam said that this year's Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr moments felt more and more meaningful in line with government policies that made it easier for people to move after the COVID-19 pandemic which had subsided.

"Taking the theme 'Turn On Togetherness', we hope to encourage a spirit of kindness that is full of warmth," said Hendri in a written statement received by VOI, Friday, March 24.

"Telkomsel itself continues to take a leading role in preparing various initiatives for the company's activities to ensure smooth running, as well as the convenience of customers to carry out activities and worship in the holy month full of blessings through support for the use of the latest digital technology that exceeds customer expectations," he added.

In order to anticipate traffic movements during the RAFI 2023 moment, the total optimization of quality, capacity, and upgrade of Telkomsel network technology has focused on 490 Points of Interest (POI) in various parts of Indonesia.

The POI includes 59 residential areas, 68 main transportation transit areas (airports, stations, terminals, and ports), 315 special areas (public service centers, city squares, and shopping centers), 28 main homecoming lane areas, and 20 large mosques.

A series of network tests on the homecoming route with a distance of 17.895 km have also been carried out by Telkomsel to ensure the quality and availability of the network, including 2,725 main toll roads throughout Indonesia.

Strengthening network infrastructure capabilities has also been carried out through an increase in the capacity of 277 units of BTS 4G/LTE, adding 221 new BTS 4G/LTE units, operating an additional 53 Compact Mobile BTS (COMBAT) units, and completing more than 260,000 Telkomsel BTS units serving 96 percent of population areas in Indonesia, almost all of which have been supported by 4G/LTE broadband technology.

As for other efforts that have been prepared by Telkomsel, namely by increasing network capacity for GGSN (Gateway GPRS Support Node), bringing the total to 11,772 Gbps.

Meanwhile, for Internet IX, there is an increase in capacity so that the total becomes 9,180 Gbps. For the convenience of 4G/LTE technology-based voice services, Telkomsel's VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology network is available in 514 cities/districts throughout Indonesia that can be used in more than 100 types of smartphones.

"Since 2022, Telkomsel has gradually and measurably upgraded the entire 3G network to 4G/LTE in 504 cities/districts and continues this year," he concluded.
