Ministry Of Industry Says RI Doesn't Need To Import KRL Carriages From Japan: INKA Can Make It All

JAKARTA - Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Dody Widodo, emphasized that Indonesia does not need to import electric rail carriages (KRL) because the national rail industry is able to produce all train needs domestically.

"PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) can make all of that, why do we have to import used train gates from Japan. He said he was proud to buy made in Indonesia. Bangladesh alone bought our train products of up to Rp1.3 trillion," said Dody, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, February 28.

He conveyed that meeting the needs of large numbers of train carriages takes time, because it cannot be realized overnight.

Therefore, Dody encourages planning for the period of replacement or rejuvenation of each train carriage operating in Indonesia.

"If suddenly it will be difficult, it should have been planned in advance and gave the domestic industry the opportunity to produce," said Dody.

Thus, continued Dody, the domestic railway industry can stimulate and drive the national economy.

"When else will we be proud of being made by domestic trains. Don't continue to be SOEs, so they can be imported and imported. Please stop thinking like that," said Dody.

Dody added that the Proudly Made in Indonesia National Movement (BBI) should be intensified thoroughly without exception. Moreover, if the products needed have been able to be produced by the domestic industry.

Thus, Dody is optimistic that the national industry can host in its own country, which will contribute to the economy and welfare of the Indonesian people.

"After all, we must be proud of the domestic industry. This needs to be implemented in a real way through actions in making decisions," concluded Dody.
