Moeldoko: Indonesia Menjadi Market Leader Industri Kendaraan Listrik

JAKARTA - Indonesia is considered to be able to become a market leader for the development of the electric vehicle industry. Moreover, Indonesia has great potential to make this happen.

Presidential Chief of Staff and General Chair of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo) Moeldoko said, there are two things that can be done related to this, namely the government has the opportunity to cooperate and provide incentives.

"First, Presidential Instruction Number 5 is the point of how the government provides full encouragement so that the EV (electric vehicle) industry can grow and develop rapidly," Moeldoko told reporters at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Friday, February 24.

"The next three years, the Presidential Instruction reappeared, this Presidential Instruction gave such as mandatory or a presidential order to the ranks of the central and regional governments to switch from ordinary cars to electric cars, this is at the government, TNI and Polri levels," he added.

In addition, said Moeldoko, the provision of incentives is also one of the drivers to accelerate the development of electric vehicles in Indonesia.

"As a driver for the Indonesian people to immediately switch and follow the next policy, namely incentives. Now, this incentive can encourage the growth of domestic industries, because once given incentives, the demand will increase, now the supply is demanded, once the supply increases, then this will move the ecosystem," he said.

Moeldoko assessed that Indonesia is still equal to foreign countries in terms of the development of electric cars, so it still has time to accelerate immediately.

"If we want to catch ICE cars, we can't, it's too far ahead, but for this electric car, we are at the same start as other countries, so this momentum must be taken by Indonesian sons and daughters, otherwise we will be left behind again, we are just followers again, we will not be leaders," he said.

"So once again, this is a very good opportunity to build the electric car industry in Indonesia. If we are careless, yes, sorry we will only be followers again, we as users are just like that, when will we become industrial (electric vehicle) leakers," he explained.

Finally, continued Moeldoko, the world of electric vehicles has been like MSMEs for a long time, making it very easy for Indonesia to accelerate the development of the industry.

"The motorcycles will be like MSMEs, believe me, if all of them are in Indonesia, later the batteries will be in Indonesia, the motorbikes are in Indonesia, the controllers are in Indonesia and everything is possible, we will be the leaders," he concluded.
