Improve The Economy, Ministry Of PUPR Through BBWS Bengawan Solo Holds The Durian Festival At The Gondang Dam, Central Java

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has optimized the use of the Gondang Dam in Central Java by establishing a Gondang Dam Care Community based on PUPR Ministerial Regulation Number 27 of 2015 concerning Community Empowerment Dams.

The main goal is the conservation of Gondang Dam water resources and the economic improvement of the surrounding community.

As his first role, the Gondang Dam Care Community together with the Bengawan Solo River Basin Center (BBWS) as the manager of the dam held a bazaar and Durian Festival at the Gondang Dam.

Head of BBWS Bengawan Solo Maryadi Utama said this activity was part of a work program initiated and initiated by the Gondang Dam Care Community.

"Community empowerment through community programs, such as the Durian Festival this time is a manifestation of the independence and sustainability of a community itself, hopefully this event can become a routine agenda at the Gondang Dam and in the future can be a positive example for other communities," said Maryadi in a written statement, Friday, February 10.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Gondang Dam Management Unit (UPB) Marina Putri said that the Wazar and Durian Festival are expected to become annual agendas.

Moreover, the attention and number of visitors who attended were approximately 1,000-1,500 people per day.

"The activities are also varied, ranging from planting and maintenance of productive plants such as durian, which currently has around 400 trees, then maintenance of dam areas such as community service together with members of the Dam Care Community, as well as training for pokmas members in agriculture, disasters and others," he added.

For your information, the Gondang Dam was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in 2019 and played an important role in supporting food security and water availability in Central Java Province.
