JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the NPK factory PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM) located in North Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, which has a production capacity of 500,000 tons per year.

"By saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this morning I will revive the NPK factory PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda, North Aceh Regency, Aceh Province," said Jokowi in his remarks, Friday, February 10.

Jokowi said that the need for fertilizer in Indonesia was 13.5 million tons but only 3.5 million tons were fulfilled. This was even more felt when he visited farmers in the village who complained about the difficulty of getting fertilizers.

"Recently, every time I go to the village and enter the fields, we meet farmers, what is always conveyed is 'no fertilizer, sir, high price fertilizer'," added Jokowi.

Meanwhile, he continued, Aceh has two large fertilizer factories that have long stopped operating due to the problem of gas unavailability which is one of the raw materials for fertilizer production.

Jokowi then assigned Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir to operate two large fertilizer factories that were expected to meet domestic needs.

"But this is just PIM, Aceh Asian Fertilizer (AAF) still has to be counted. There's nothing to do with one road first. Gas needs are needed. This is the basic need that we want to be allowed to do," concluded Jokowi.
