JAKARTA - Energy Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) analyst Putra Adhiguna said that the consumption of fuel oil (BBM) in Indonesia is more wasteful than other countries.

This is because in the use of fuel there is no fuel-saving target policy, as has been adopted by other countries.

According to Putra, fuel consumption in Indonesia is 40 percent more wasteful than India's country.

Based on data held by IEEFA, the consumption of fuel for conventional light vehicles in Indonesia reaches more than 8 liters per 100 kilo meters (km).

Meanwhile, India consumes fuel for conventional light vehicles in less than 6 liters per 100 km.

Putra assessed that Indonesia does not yet have the commitment of a fixed country to switch to cleaner energy.

"The average light car fuel consumption in Indonesia is around 40 percent more wasteful than India, and this does not reflect a country that is worried about the problem of oil imports," he said in Jakarta, Monday, February 6.

The stakeholders, said Putra, must ask the automotive industry to align their business direction with national interests for vehicles that are more efficient, have low emissions, and move towards the electric vehicle (EV) industry in the future.

"Policies requiring certain targets such as fuel economy savings must be immediately implemented to reduce the automotive industry to more efficient vehicles," he said.

For your information, the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) noted that the absorption of the type of fuel oil (BBM) specifically for the Assignment (JBKP) of Pertalite (RON 90) during January to December 2022 is estimated to reach 29.48 million kiloliters (KL).

Pertalite's fuel absorption reached 98.56 percent of the quota target of 29.91 million KL in 2022.

The Pertalite quota of 29.91 million KL last year has been increased by 30 percent from the initial quota of 23.05 million KL.

Meanwhile, for this year's quota, subsidized diesel fuel is targeted at 17 million kl and an assignment-specific Fuel Type (JBKP) quota (RON 90) of 32.56 million KL.

On the other hand, the realization of subsidies and energy compensation, both fuel oil (BBM) and Indonesian electricity, reached IDR 551.2 trillion or the equivalent of 109.7 percent of the target set in Presidential Regulation Number 98 of 2022, which amounted to IDR 502.4 trillion, throughout 2022.
